The heads of state expressed confidence that the situation with the detention of Russians will be resolved in a spirit of mutual understanding.

“It was emphasized that the Russian side is interested in maintaining a stable internal political situation in Belarus and holding the upcoming presidential elections in a calm atmosphere,” the message says.

As emphasized, the leaders discussed topical issues of the development of “fraternal Russian-Belarusian relations”.

At the end of July, it became known about the detention of 33 Russians in Belarus, who are suspected of preparing riots.

The Russian Foreign Ministry called the situation around the detainees a performance.

As noted in the ministry, the guilt of the detainees has not been proven by anything and they must return to their homeland.

On August 6, Lukashenko ordered to invite the prosecutors general of Russia and Ukraine to Belarus to investigate the situation with the detained Russians.

He stated that Belarus will not hand over the detainees to anyone until the party that requests the extradition proves their guilt.
