According to the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF), about 80,000 Lebanese children have lost their homes and have been displaced due to the Beirut port explosion last Tuesday.

In a report, UNICEF added that there are still children missing, and those who survived suffer psychological trauma.

She explained that at least 12 primary health care facilities, maternity and vaccination centers, and children were affected by the explosion.

The organization also said that one of the newborns died as a result of the destruction of a children's hospital in the Karentina area that had a specialized unit treating newborns in critical condition.

She indicated that she needs about 4 and a half million dollars to be able to respond to the huge needs in Beirut, especially for the affected children and their families.

International aid
On the other hand, the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs called on member states to participate in an online meeting on the humanitarian situation in Lebanon next Monday.

A diplomatic source told Al Jazeera that the UN Coordination Office will provide a briefing on the situation in Beirut, and examine the efforts of the United Nations to support the ongoing response there.

He also made it clear that the meeting will highlight the gaps in the current response to the situation in Beirut, and call for urgent support.

Farhan Haq, deputy spokesman for the United Nations Secretary-General, said that the UN Humanitarian Coordinator, Najat Rushdie, has saved $ 9 million from the Lebanese Humanitarian Fund to support the emergency response to the Beirut explosion.

He also confirmed that Mark Lockook, the Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs, would announce the provision of more funds from the United Nations Central Emergency Response Fund to strengthen the capacities of hospitals in the Lebanese capital.

The flow of Arab and international aid continues to support relief operations and treat the wounded and injured as a result of the explosion that rocked Beirut Port on Tuesday.

The explosion killed 137 people and wounded about 5,000, in infinite numbers, at a time when the security and judicial agencies are continuing their investigations to find out the causes of the explosion, and the Lebanese army imposed a wide security cordon around the port.

Lebanon has been experiencing the worst economic collapse for months. Almost half of the citizens live below the poverty line, and 35% of the workforce suffers from unemployment.

The port explosion was a major blow to the residents of the capital and its surroundings, as some 300,000 people have been displaced from their homes, which were destroyed or severely damaged.
