The Mossos d'Esquadra arrested a driver for ramming a group of five cyclists who were traveling on the BP-5107 road at the height of Sant Pere de Vilamajor (Barcelona). As a consequence of the crash one of the cyclists, 44 years old and a resident of Vilanova del Vallès, died while another is in critical condition at the Sant Pau hospital in Barcelona, a third victim is seriously injured at the Granollers hospital and the others two are less serious in a Sant Celoni medical center.
After carrying out the alcohol control, the Mossos detected that the driver tested positive, so they arrested him for five crimes: reckless manslaughter, injuries, damages, driving recklessly and driving under the influence of alcohol. Following the alert for this fatal attack on Thursday night, 10 Mossos patrols, three teams of Bombers and three ambulances were activated, with the psychological support service to the victims.
The Servei Català de Trànsit indicates that 65 people have died on the interurban road network so far this year, although the number could increase due to the severity of the injuries of another of the runned cyclists.
