The committee will not present a comprehensive proposal. Instead, a number of individual proposals are put forward, behind which there are jumping majorities. The only party behind all the committee's proposals is the Social Democrats.

- I think these are good suggestions. This means that we can have legislation that remains strict but still takes responsibility for those who seek protection. I regret that we could not reach a broad political agreement on the whole, but would say that there is support for many of the proposals, says Rikard Larsson (S) to SVT after the meeting.

The moderates are not happy

The Moderates, together with SD and KD, have pushed for a much tougher asylum policy, but none of the party's proposals are included in the report.

- There will be more asylum seekers, it is clear in the impact assessment, and more residence permits will be granted. The foundation is being laid for a continuation of the failed migration and integration policy that we unfortunately suffer from in the suites of this country, says Tobias Billström (M).

The Green Party has also sat on the sidelines, but for the opposite reason. The party believes that the proposal is inhumane and risks leading to deterioration of integration and children suffering.

- My hope is still that we will reach an agreement that is humane. It should be remembered that the temporary law came in an exceptional situation now we are in an opposite situation where a record few seek asylum, says MP's representative Annika Hirvonen Falk.

"Will do everything we can"

No later than 14 August, the Migration Committee will present its proposal. The current temporary law expires in July next year and if no new legislation is in place then the old, more generous legislation will come into force again.

- The parties that think it is important that the old and more generous law does not come back also have a responsibility to ensure that this report becomes legislation, says Rikard Larsson.

- We will do everything we can to get a new team in place, he continues.
