Yesterday, the Swiss government announced that it had reached an agreement with the American company Moderna for Pharmaceutical Industries to provide 5.4 million doses of a vaccine against the emerging corona virus, which has reached an advanced stage of clinical trials.
With this agreement, Switzerland joins the list of rich countries that guarantee access to the vaccine, after verifying that it is effective and safe.
Switzerland, which is not a member of the European Union, was able to secure doses of an anti-Coronavirus vaccine for about two million and 25 thousand people out of a total population of eight million and 600 thousand people. The Swiss government is also holding talks in parallel regarding other possible vaccines to treat the Corona virus, as it has not yet been confirmed whether the American Moderna vaccine is effective and safe. Switzerland is allocating 300 million Swiss francs ($ 330 million) to secure future doses of a vaccine against "Covid-19". The Swiss government said it also supports multilateral efforts to give poor countries equal access to vaccines and drugs needed to combat the epidemic.
Switzerland is in talks about other possible vaccines.
