Dubai Electricity and Water Authority announced that the number of subscribers to the "My Sustainable Approach" program aimed at the residential sector has exceeded 400,000 since its launch in October 2018, until the end of last July.
These positive results are the result of the authority’s efforts to promote a culture of rational consumption among various sectors, especially the residential sector, and to enable customers to adopt a sustainable lifestyle in an innovative and effective manner. The "My Sustainable Approach" program has proven highly efficient in helping customers follow an integrated rationalization plan, which has enabled them to significantly rationalize their electricity and water consumption, and reduce their carbon footprint.
The program falls under the umbrella of the “Smart Life” initiative aimed at raising the level of awareness among customers, and enabling them to manage their consumption of electricity and water without referring to the authority, in order to improve their experience during interaction with the authority, and reduce the demand for the “consumption verification request - electricity / Water ».
The managing director and CEO of the authority, Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, said, “We are working according to the vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, to achieve sustainable development at all levels, and the Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050, to make Dubai the lowest city in Global carbon footprint by 2050. ”
He continued, "We are keen to enhance the consumer response in line with the energy and water demand management strategy, which aims to reduce the demand for electricity and water by 30% by 2030."
He pointed out that «the authority adopts an integrated strategy to raise awareness of the importance of rationalizing consumption, and to involve all customers and community members in efforts to protect the environment and preserve natural resources, as we annually launch many innovative initiatives, programs and awards to encourage all consumer sectors to follow a conscious and responsible lifestyle in consuming electricity. And water ».
The broad response achieved by the authority’s initiatives indicates a rise in awareness among the various groups of society of the importance of participating in achieving sustainability and preserving the environment, which prompted the authority to launch more innovative initiatives aimed at encouraging stakeholders to assume their responsibilities and stimulating positive competition among them to rationalize consumption and reduce the carbon footprint.
The customer can enjoy the many advantages and technical characteristics provided by the "My Sustainable Approach" program, after logging into his own account with the authority through its smart application or website, and updating the "consumption patterns" file to take advantage of the possibility of preparing a special rationalization plan, and comparing the consumption of his home with similar homes. And high-efficiency homes in the same area, in addition to specially designed rationing advice for each customer based on his consumption.
Awareness tips
The "My Sustainable Approach" program includes several main features, including a control panel through which consumption comparisons are displayed with other homes in the region, and with similar high-efficiency homes, and providing the customer with a monthly report on the volume of consumption, in addition to awareness tips and advice.
