At first, Wang Qunfeng couldn't believe it when he learned that the organization admiral had appointed himself as the captain. With the implementation of the policy of "non-commissioned officers shall be the captains of ships of indeterminate class", he became the first non-commissioned officer of the detachment to assume the role of captain.
In August 2017, the leader of the detachment told Wang Qunfeng that the organization decided to let him be the captain. That night, Wang Qunfeng suffered from insomnia. He had been working around the engine for 23 years. It had always been his dream to be a captain, but when this day came, this veteran had some lack of confidence.
Wang Qunfeng is proficient in electromechanics, good at management, and served as the captain of the electromechanical area and the boat sergeant. This is his advantage. But his shortcomings are also obvious: lack of sailing knowledge and no experience in naval operation.
Wang Qunfeng, who has passed the years of no doubt, knew in his heart: Although the name has only changed a few words, the quality has to be upgraded, and everything must start from the beginning.
The first hurdle of being a captain is to participate in the independent operation assessment. Wang Qunfeng worked overtime and took some supplementary lessons, and finally passed the assessment smoothly and obtained the "post permit" for sailing to sea.
After serving as captain, Wang Qunfeng led the boat to ride the wind and waves again and again. The change of status requires only a piece of order, and it is not a day's work to fully adapt and be competent for the position.
Once, not long after Wang Qunfeng led the boat out of the port, the main engine team reported that the machine had malfunctioned. He immediately ran to the engine room, "watching, hearing and asking questions" and quickly eliminated the fault. Once, the boat was ordered to perform a task in a certain sea area, which was the longest distance that Wang Qunfeng had sailed since he became the captain.
