The toll of the two explosions, which occurred in downtown Beirut, is further increased with a new provisional toll of at least 137 dead and more than 5,000 injured. Dozens of people are still missing.

The violent explosions that rocked Beirut on Tuesday left at least 137 dead, while dozens of people remain missing, the spokesperson for the Ministry of Health told AFP on Thursday. "So far, the toll is over 137 dead and more than 5,000 wounded," said Rida Moussaoui, adding that a new toll could be announced during the day.

The huge explosions, which authorities say were caused by a fire in a warehouse housing a huge amount of ammonium nitrate at the port of Beirut, also left some 300,000 homeless.
