On August 6, 1945, the United States dropped the atomic bomb on Hiroshima. Around 140,000 people are estimated to have lost their lives in the Japanese city due to the bombing.

In Gothenburg, a network of peace associations, Fredsam, has celebrated the day with, among other things, a memorial ceremony at Röda Sten. They have been holding the ceremony for almost 30 years. This year, they have a clear wish for the Swedish government:

- We want to focus in particular on the ban on nuclear weapons that the UN has presented and which will soon be ratified. We hope that Sweden will also agree and ratify it, says Gunnar Westberg on the network Fredsam and former chairman of Swedish doctors against nuclear weapons.

During the ceremony, the artist Bertil Gustafsson showed his new sculpture, which is inspired by Hiroshima and the nuclear issue. See the work in the clip above.
