INTERVIEW

Two impressive explosions ravaged the Lebanese capital on Tuesday, killing at least 100 people and injuring 4,000 more. At the microphone of Europe 1, Fouad Zmokhol, president of the gathering of Lebanese leaders and business leaders in the world, returned to this tragedy. "Lebanon, once again, weeps," he lamented. "The whole international community is at our side. But we are very worried about who will rebuild," he says at the microphone of Europe 1. Because Fouad Zmokhol warns: we need a renewal of the political class for years to come up.

"If they knew, it's a crime and if they didn't know, it's a double crime"

"Is it going to be this same political class, which waged a fifteen-year fratricidal war and which economically plundered Lebanon for 30 years, who will rebuild the city?" Asks Fouad Zmokhol. According to him, there is no doubt: the corruption of the ruling class is responsible for the disaster, because the ammonium nitrate (which would have caused the strong explosion, editor's note ) "was stored for more than five years in the port, which like all borders depend on the State ". "We slept on an atomic bomb without even knowing it: if they knew, it is a crime and if they did not know it is a double crime", he concludes.
