Lebanese President Michel Aoun called for an extraordinary session of the government to discuss the explosion that occurred yesterday in the Beirut port, declaring a state of emergency in the capital for two weeks.

Aoun added in a tweet on Twitter, "It is unacceptable that a shipment of ammonium nitrate, estimated at 2750 tons, has been present for 6 years in a warehouse without precautionary measures, and has vowed to" impose the most severe penalties "on those responsible.

The Lebanese Supreme Defense Council recommended that Beirut be declared a disaster city. It also declared a two-week state of emergency in the capital and handed over security duties to the military authorities.

The Council called for the commission of a commission to investigate the explosion, to present its findings within 5 days, and to take the highest levels of sanctions against those responsible.

A huge explosion occurred in Beirut yesterday, Tuesday, killing at least 100 people and injuring about 4000 others, in addition to many missing persons.
