- We think it will be a slight increase, if you look at how much you get in each cage, says researcher Lennart Edsman at SLU Aqua at the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences.

This year is the fourth year that SLU Aqua makes such a forecast. Basic data for the forecast are catch series that go back 25 years.

The weather can affect the forecast

Since this is a forecast, the actual result may differ, partly depending on how the weather has been during the past year. Cold weather in May followed by high temperatures in June would probably have given a highly normal crayfish season. The cold weather of July, however, makes the forecast a bit uncertain, but the forecasters believe in a slightly later season than usual.

In Lake Vättern, this year you can fish without a permit on public water for three weekends starting on 28 August.
