Two strong explosions shook the Lebanese capital Beirut on Tuesday, above which rises a thick cloud of smoke, and leaving several dozen injured, revealed members of the Lebanese security. The strong explosions, which took place in the port area and whose origin was not immediately known, were heard in several sectors of the city.

The windows of many buildings and stores were shattered. Thick clouds of orange smoke rise above the capital.

An incident at the port?

Local media broadcast images of people trapped under rubble, some covered in blood. According to preliminary information from local media, the explosion was the result of an incident at the port of Beirut.

The circumstances and details of the explosion remained unknown immediately. "The buildings are shaking," tweeted one city resident, saying "all the windows in (his) apartment have exploded."
