Elon Musk it's time to revise your History lessons - Susan Walsh / AP / SIPA

“The pyramids were obviously built by aliens,” eccentric billionaire Elon Munsk recently wrote on Twitter, picking up on a theme popular among conspirators. Not a fan of this kind of humor towards its beloved heritage, Egypt invited the American businessman to come and visit its ancient monuments and learn a little more about them.

This tweet sparked an avalanche of reactions ranging from mockery to outrage among netizens, with some Egyptian nationalists asking Elon Musk to further verify the facts (yes because we are specifying that in case our readership, actually this are not the aliens who built the pyramids eh, we must stop taking  Star Gate SG-1 seriously, despite the undeniable quality of the series). Egyptian Minister of Investment and International Cooperation, Rania al-Mashat, saw it as an opportunity to promote tourism in her country.

Personal invitation

“I follow your work with great admiration. I invite you and Space-X to explore the writings on how the pyramids were built and also to visit the tombs of the builders of the pyramids. We are waiting for you, Elon Musk! », Underlined the minister, inviting him to visit in person the last of the ancient seven wonders of the world still standing.

Having been slapped on the fingers, the billionaire then posted a link to a BBC article tracing the history of the workforce behind the construction of these huge buildings, calling it a "good summary".

The pyramids of the Giza plateau, a flagship site for Egyptian tourism, reopened to the public in July, after three months of closure due to the coronavirus pandemic. You too can try to tweet about the little green men, hoping to be invited in your turn by Cairo.
