The shark release at Havets hus usually attracts large audiences. But this year, it was kept secret for the longest time to avoid crowds. It was only when the tub with the six sharks was rolled out on the quay that visitors to Lysekil understood that something was going to happen.

Since 2003, Havets hus has released small-spotted red sharks in the Kattegat. With this year's addition, there are up to 130 copies. All of them are marked in case they are found or fished up by mistake. The shark that moved the longest was found in the Oslo Fjord, 15 years old.

No longer red-listed

WWF has been involved in and supports the work for several years. The state of knowledge about the small-spotted red shark is better today than when the project started and the species is no longer red-listed since this year.

- I am both happy about the positive changes but I am also worried that people will not take the threats to the seas seriously, says Inger Näslund, expert on marine and fisheries issues WWF.
