  • Colombia.Uribe calls Supreme Court judges liars and coup plotters

Former Colombian President Álvaro Uribe has announced this Tuesday, through his Twitter account, that the justice system has ordered his house arrest: "The deprivation of my freedom causes me deep sadness for my lady , for my family and for the Colombians who they still believe that I have done something good for the Homeland, "he says in his tweet.

It is the first time in the history of Colombia that a former president appears before the Supreme Court and is later arrested. Not even Ernesto Samper, who won the 1994 elections with funds from the bloody Cali cartel, was tried.

And although there are countless accusations against Álvaro Uribe , the one that he will have to face from today is one of the most tangled. In February 2012, the senator from the socialist Polo Democrático, Iván Cepeda, filed a lawsuit after a debate in the Senate where he was accused of forming the Metro Block of paramilitaries and other serious crimes.

The defendant countered by suing him for creating a cartel of false witnesses with former paramilitaries to testify against him. As both were sheltered by the jurisdiction that covers the parliamentarians, the Supreme Court was in charge of seeing the case.
