The explosion in the Lebanese capital Beirut at least five employees of the Dutch embassy were injured on Tuesday afternoon. This is confirmed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs after reports from the AD . One of the employees is seriously injured, the other four are slightly injured.

The exact injuries to employees were not disclosed.

An enormous explosion took place in the port of Beirut on Tuesday afternoon. The local Red Cross speaks of at least 70 dead and hundreds injured. Nothing is yet known about the cause of the explosion.

The number of injured is likely to rise, as many residents in the affected area are still trapped in their homes for several hours after the explosion, said Lebanese Red Cross chief George Kettaneh.
