Hitherto excluded from the device, home helpers should finally benefit from the Covid premium. Emmanuel Macron announced Tuesday August 3 that the State and the departments were going to release 160 million euros to pay an exceptional bonus to the 320,000 home helpers.

This sum, which the State and the departmental councils will provide on an equal basis, will allow the professionals concerned "to have the 1,000 euros bonus that the other [nursing staff] had", declared the Head of State in front of home helpers, during a visit to Toulon.

Home helpers, who intervene in support of 800,000 elderly people with loss of autonomy and 300,000 people with disabilities, were until now "the forgotten of the Covid premium", noted the president.

This bonus, which will be paid "before Christmas", after examination of the files "between September and December", will "fully recognize the role" they played during the health crisis, according to him.

In mid-June, the home employment federations had cried "injustice", being surprised that professionals in the sector - 97% of women were excluded from the bonus granted to front-line staff in the face of the coronavirus .

In April, the government announced the payment of bonuses for caregivers on the job in the face of the epidemic and also wanted the allocation of a bonus for the staff of all medico-social structures, whether public or private.

But the executive had also stressed, until now, that the payment of this premium to home helpers was the responsibility of the departmental councils, since it is they, and not the health insurance, which finance the assistance and care services. home support.
