It was six months ago that a split took place within the criminal Botkyrkanätverket.

During the conflict, which was about the drug market, one of the gang was shot at in their home by people in their own network, according to information to SVT News.

The shooting that left the 12-year-old girl dead on the street on Sunday morning was part of the escalating conflict. But the girl was not the target - she was in the wrong place at the wrong time, according to information to SVT News.

The shooter's target should instead have been a number of people wearing bulletproof vests who were in the parking lot at the same time.

The police did not want to comment on the circumstances surrounding the act during the day.

- We do not comment on that. In general, this type of shooting has links to criminal networks, but we do not go into how it is in this particular case, says Palle Nilsson to SVT News.

"Witnesses are scared"

Norsborg stands out as one of the country's most gang-ravaged areas, according to Manne Gerell, associate professor of criminology at Malmö University. The reason is that there are active criminal networks there.

In the last 14 days alone, the police have issued three alarms about shootings.

- Norsborg has more shootings than most other places, but at the same time not so many compared to other vulnerable areas, says Manne Gerell.

But the development is difficult to stop.

- The problem is that you can rarely put them on just shots. Many are put there for drug offenses or weapon offenses that do not have the same penalty values, therefore the penalties are not as long-lasting.

Why is it like that?

- It has many different explanations. It is common for victims not to want to talk, many witnesses are afraid to tell what they have seen or witnessed. The police can often figure out who they think has done it, but getting the evidence to go to court is a challenge. Unfortunately, only 12-30 percent of cases are resolved to reach a court ruling.
