03 August 2020A Syrian cell would have entered Israeli territory overnight to place explosive devices near the Alpha line along the border between the Jewish state and Syria. Israeli soldiers of Maglan special forces and planes opened fire on four suspects, some of whom were armed, killing them all, said army spokesman Hidai Zilberman, quoted by the Israeli media.

"We have thwarted the attempt by four terrorists to place explosives near the security zone between Israel and Syria," said a message posted on Twitter by the Israeli army. The "Syrian regime" will be held accountable for "any event" that occurs in the country, adding that the Israeli army remains "ready for any scenario".

The army also released the video of the incident, where figures are seen approaching a fence near the border who are hit with a missile. Zilberman said it is currently unclear which military or terrorist organization the 4 men belonged to, but that a "team of terrorists near the protection barrier" has been identified, regardless of which group is behind the attack attempt, the army holds the Syrian government responsible for the accident and is considering retaliating against Damascus in some way.

The spokesman added that there were no Israeli casualties in the action in northern Golan. "The northern command maintains high reactivity to every scenario. The army holds the Syrian regime
responsible for all the events they generate from its territory and will not tolerate any violation of Israeli sovereignty." The army also released a video showing the operation.

Yesterday evening - according to the Israeli military spokesman - a rocket was launched from Gaza to southern Israel where alarm sirens had sounded earlier. The rocket was intercepted by the Iron dome, the anti-missile defense system.

While on 27 July the Israeli army foiled another attack by a Hezbollah commando that tried to enter Israeli territory from the Syrian-Lebanese border at the height of the Sheba farms on the offshoots of Mount Hermon.

Also last month five Iranian-backed fighters were killed in an Israeli missile attack south of the Syrian capital Damascus, according to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.
