03 August 2020 Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI has a serious facial infection. This was written by the website of the German newspaper Passauer Neue Presse, claiming to have learned it from the biographer of Ratzinger himself, the writer Peter Seewald. Benedict XVI suffers from a facial infection which would have worsened after the death of his brother Georg and which would now lead to "severe pain". Peter Seewald presented the new biography to Benedict XVI in recent days. At the meeting, the Pope emeritus, however, appeared "optimistic despite the disease", the German press still reports.
