Closed borders, travel restrictions and the Foreign Ministry's dissuasion from travel to different countries have meant that Swedes this year have had to invent things at home instead. In addition to the fact that many have taken the opportunity to renovate summer cottages and balconies, Hemester has become a well-known concept, which can be seen in our searches on the internet.

Searches for "Holidays in Sweden" have in 2020 been almost twice as popular as in the last five years, according to statistics from Google Trends. There is also a clear decline in searches in the subject "travel" during the spring and summer this year compared with the previous ones. One activity in particular seems to have become extra popular. The word "hiking" has received a real boost during the pandemic according to the search giant's statistics.
