02 August 2020Two boats with 20 Tunisians arrived on the mainland in Lampedusa during the night. A little while ago a small boat - with a dozen migrants - entered the port of the island.

The first groups that arrived, after the health checks, were transferred to the island's hotspot where 780 remained tonight.

A group of over 100 migrants are ready to leave from the reception facility in the Imbriacola district: they will be boarded on the ferry of line that will arrive in Porto Empedocle in the evening.

The mayor and the appeal to empty the hotspot
Yesterday the mayor of Lampedusa announced that the hotspot for the first reception of migrants would be "closed because there are a thousand people inside", a number ten times greater than the capacity provided by the structure. "The next ones to arrive will have to stay on the pier," said Toto Martello, launching an appeal for the "packed" Center to be emptied.

In the evening the Prefecture of Agrigento had already ordered the departure of over a hundred migrants.
