Al-Jazeera correspondent in Beirut quoted sources in the Lebanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs as saying that Foreign Minister Nassif was even going to present his resignation to Prime Minister Hassan Diab on Monday.

Lebanese foreign sources said that the minister even expressed his intention to resign as a result of the lack of any progress in the path the government is taking to confront the crises that beset Lebanon.

For its part, Anatolia news agency quoted a source - preferring not to reveal his identity - that the reason for the resignation was "an escape from reality", and the source denied that there was any communication between the minister and Prime Minister Hassan Diab, in this context.

Lebanon is experiencing its worst economic crisis since the end of the civil war (1975-1990), which sparked since October 17, 2019 popular protests raising economic and political demands.

The protesters are demanding the departure of the political class, which they hold responsible for the rampant corruption in state institutions, which they see as the main cause of the country's financial and economic collapse.

In addition to the economic crisis, Lebanon is suffering from severe political division and polarization, especially since the formation of the current government headed by Diab on February 11, to succeed the Saad Hariri government that resigned on October 29, under the pressure of protests.
