Palestine Saturday condemned Israel’s ratification of a plan to build a settlement operating complex north of occupied Jerusalem, in light of the acceleration of the settlement process by the Israeli authorities.

In a statement, the Palestinian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Emigrants said that the Synod comes in the context of attempts to consolidate the annexation of Jerusalem, change its reality and distort its history, identity and separation from its Palestinian surroundings.

The Ministry called on the international community to assume its responsibilities towards "serious settlement escalation", and called on the International Criminal Court to expedite the opening of an investigation into the crimes of the occupation, in order to hold the Israeli officials involved in it accountable.

The official Hebrew "Kan" channel reported yesterday that the Jerusalem municipality approved the plan to establish the employment complex after it was put forward by the Israeli government Ministry of Jerusalem Affairs.

The operating complex is an industrial zone that includes commercial, industrial and professional shops. The complex will be built on an area of 90 dunums (a dunam of one thousand square meters) on the eastern side of Al-Issawiya (north of Jerusalem).

The Israeli channel indicated that the mayor of Jerusalem, Moshe Lenin, pledged to continue settlement projects in the city.

In recent years, the Israeli government has accelerated settlement operations in the city of Jerusalem, in addition to intensifying attacks on Palestinian Jerusalemites and Al-Aqsa Mosque.

The Palestinians rejected the US peace plan in the Middle East known as the "Deal of the Century", announced by US President Donald Trump last January. The American plan considers Jerusalem, in its eastern and western parts, as the capital of Israel.

The Palestinians insist that East Jerusalem - which Israel captured in 1967 - is the capital of the future Palestinian state.
