Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin drew attention to the situation in a number of states, where a new increase in the incidence is noted and the likelihood of a "second wave" of COVID-19 is being discussed.

The mayor in Moscow is not talking about the possibility of such a development of events.

“The second wave is when people are in danger of being infected for the second time. There is practically no such thing in our country, anywhere in the world. Why are we seeing rapid growth in a number of regions? Because they did not even go through the first wave, the first trial, ”Sobyanin suggested on the air of the Russia 1 TV channel.

As the mayor noted, cities such as London, New York, Paris and Moscow have passed the stage of an epidemic, when 6.5 thousand new patients with COVID-19 were recorded per day.

We add that earlier the mayor spoke about the formation of collective immunity among Muscovites, which will allow the city to continue easing restrictive measures. So, in mid-July, Sobyanin estimated the level of immunity of Muscovites to coronavirus at 60%.

Earlier, the Ministry of Health also expressed the point of view that an increase in the number of patients with seasonal acute respiratory diseases is expected in the coming autumn, but there is no talk of the prospects for a sharp increase in the number of patients with coronavirus.

The protracted nature of the pandemic

Meanwhile, the World Health Organization (WHO) on the eve suggested that the coronavirus epidemic will last for a long time. The organization released a detailed statement on the prospects for combating COVID-19.

Following its discussion, the Committee concluded that “the outbreak remains a public health emergency of international concern”.

Along with this, the Committee made a number of recommendations for WHO and the member countries of the organization. They include, inter alia, continuing collaborative efforts to prepare for and respond to outbreaks of COVID-19, as well as support for health services and provide access to diagnostics, drugs and vaccines as they become available.
