Heavy rains in the state of Khartoum in Sudan led to the flooding of a number of villages and towns east of the Nile, for long hours and over the days of Friday and Saturday, and the collapse of a dam in Blue Nile State surrounded hundreds of families.

The floods in Khartoum State caused the collapse of houses and vital facilities there, and some villages were surrounded by water from all directions.

The residents of the area are facing great difficulties in moving to meet their basic needs.

The governorate governor asked civil defense teams to monitor the Nile river level and activate the focal points in the areas that may be affected by the high level.

The collapse of the Bout Dam
In the southeastern state of Blue Nile, about 600 families found themselves trapped in water, after heavy rains caused the Bout Dam to collapse.

The local official in the state, Nusseibeh Farouq, said that the water of the dam that collapsed Thursday in the Bout region destroyed hundreds of houses, and local media indicated that the dam contained five million cubic meters of water coming from the valleys of the Inksna Mountains.

Sudan usually experiences heavy rains between June and October, and annually faces flood risk.
