"The landing must be stable!" Experts talk about "recreating the surface of Mars"

On July 23, my country's first Mars exploration mission, the "Tianwen-1" probe, was launched to launch a Mars exploration journey, taking the first step in my country's autonomous planetary exploration. Jiang Mingjing, a professor of Tianjin University who participated in the scientific research on Mars exploration and landing, watched the image of the probe lift-off over and over again, and sincerely blessed: "God ask, come on! The landing must be steady!"

The "Beiyang Energy and Environmental Geotechnical" team led by Professor Mingjing Jiang undertook the research project on the surface of Mars. "Our main mission can be vividly called'recreating the surface of Mars', and our team is vividly called the'star-building' team by many netizens. The gravity on Mars is only one-third of that of the earth, and it simulates the surface and topography of Mars. The characteristics are of great significance for the successful landing of future probes in the Martian gravitational environment." Jiang Mingjing said that their research and development content mainly includes: simulated ground imaging area basic field, working area basic field, Martian surface characteristics, simulated fire ground landing test Bed, Martian surface laser and microwave features, etc.

After two years of hard research, Jiang Mingjing led the team to "make stars" successfully: the typical Martian surface of the lander’s landing site was successfully constructed; the visual environment such as the Martian surface topography close to the real form of the Martian surface was simulated, and the tester’s response to visible light , Radar and laser reflection requirements; provide a series of missions such as the Mars probe equipment carried by the Mars validator, which is similar to the Mars detection environment.

On November 14, 2019, they successfully carried out China's first Mars exploration mission lander hovering obstacle avoidance test. "Hovering obstacle avoidance of lander is an important link in the development process of China's Mars project. With the test Mars probe falling steadily, it marks the complete success of China's Mars exploration mission lander hovering obstacle avoidance test, which makes us feel very excited. Since then, we have done research on simulating the soil bearing characteristics of Mars, digital simulation of the surface of Mars, and doing some asteroid exploration research." Jiang Mingjing said.

Professor Jiang Mingjing and his team have made significant contributions to Mars exploration and landing, and they have been fully affirmed. The team was awarded the title of "Outstanding Contributor to the Construction of Mars Landing Comprehensive Test Field". "Our journey is the sea of stars. See you on Mars in 7 months!" Professor Jiang Mingjing said.
