The Japan Student Services Organization’s financial assistance for students affected by the rainstorm has three parts. 1. Payment-type scholarships for family accidents; 2. Loan-type scholarships to reduce the repayment amount and extend the return period; 3. Distribute a disaster subsidy of 100,000 yen.
The "Paying Family Accident Scholarship" is the granting of scholarships. Applicants need to meet the following requirements: the drastic reduction of family income due to heavy rain disasters, and living in the applicable area of the Disaster Relief Law. In principle, applications for this payment are accepted at any time throughout the year, and the specific subsidy amount is given in accordance with the rules.
"Reduction of loan-type scholarship repayment amount and extension of repayment period" is a relief measure for both interest-free and interest-bearing loan scholarships. Applicants must meet: the inability to repay the loan scholarship due to heavy rain disasters and other related requirements.
More than half of their homes were damaged or soaked by rain, and the self-government organization issued an evacuation advisory for more than one month, including foreign students, can apply for the "100,000 yen disaster subsidy."
It is worth noting that the Japanese Student Services Organization mentioned in the "100,000 yen disaster subsidy" application eligibility statement: Those who suffered disasters before enrollment or during suspension, and those who repeat grades due to poor academic performance are not eligible for receiving; in addition, The disaster suffered is only one application.
When applying for the "100,000 yen disaster subsidy", foreign students need to submit the "disaster certificate" issued by the local government, and a copy of the certificate is also valid. The application period is within six months from the month following the day of the disaster. For example, for a heavy rain disaster that occurred on July 3, 2020, the application period will end on January 31, 2021.
