According to the press service of the National Police, the man was found on the night of August 1 in the village of Oposhnya in the Poltava region.

The police say that when "his actions began to threaten the lives of the police, the sniper neutralized the man."

The hostage taking took place on 23 July. The attacker took a police officer hostage while trying to arrest him, threatening to detonate a grenade.

Subsequently, he agreed to replace the hostage with the head of the regional criminal investigation department. The hijacker drove away with the hostage in the provided car.

Later that day, the man who took the policeman hostage released him, after which he fled into the forest.
