01 August 2020Greek has now reopened six of its ports to passenger ships for the first time since the country reopened its doors to tourists after the long lockdown for the coronavirus, although no ship is expected to arrive from cruise within the next three weeks.

In a letter to the International Association of Cruise Companies and three major shipowners, the Minister of Tourism, Harry Theoharis, quoted by the Ana agency, specified that the reopening to passenger ships concerns Rhodes, Iraklion in Crete, Volos in Thessaly, Corfu. and Katakolo in Olympia in addition to Athens' Piraeus.

But Theoharis' announcement was tempered by the merchant naval minister, Yannis Plakiotakis, who announced that the cruises will not restart before August 20.
