A drunk driver retreated into the crowd in front of a bar on the night of Friday to Saturday in Vinzelles, near Mâcon, leaving 13 injured, one of them more seriously, said the prefecture of Saône-et-Loire. The driver, who had fled, was arrested and taken into police custody.

According to the first elements collected, 16 people were examined by doctors, 12 were slightly injured, three people shocked and a young woman seriously injured in the legs but whose life is not in danger, details the prefecture in a statement. All the people were transported to a hospital center. "It would be an incident on Friday evening, against a background of alcohol," said the prefecture.

"I saw the people around being ejected"

According to a witness, "customers had, no doubt as a joke (...), more or less tapped on the bodywork of a few vehicles before and this is again what happened with this driver", indicates Le Journal de Saône -and-Loire . "He then retreated into the crowd and I saw the people around being ejected", according to this witness quoted by the newspaper. The services of the Saône-et-Loire gendarmerie group, the emergency services of this department and of Ain and the SMUR intervened on the spot and the director of security of the prefect's office went to the scene.

The investigations of the gendarmes will be carried out by the research brigade, with the Mâcon brigade.
