The verdict was announced by Kalmar District Court on Thursday and the man is sentenced, among other things, for threatening to kidnap Mönsterås municipal councilor Anders Johansson (C), which the Barometer was the first to report on.

The threat was sent by text message and was intended to "provoke serious fear" both in the recipient of the text message and by the municipal council to which the threat was directed, as well as by the recipient's wife who was also threatened.

- The man contacted me for the first time in December, without having an actual case that I could help him with. Then it turned into threats and harassment, and during the spring I received a few hundred emails from him. He sneaked up on me in town and said he would look for me at home. Which made me take the threat seriously, says Anders Johansson (C).

Common problem in politics

Another politician in the municipality has also been exposed to the man, who has harassed the politician in his home. Among other things, by repeatedly knocking on the front door of the accommodation and looking in through the windows, both day and night. The man is also said to have followed the politician when he was outdoors.

- I have many colleagues who have been exposed to threats and hatred and more who have quit because of it. It is a threat to democracy, and something that may make you withdraw to become a politician and elected representative, says Anders Johansson (C).

Apart from one year in prison, the man is also sentenced to pay damages to a total of six people, of between 5,000 and 15,000 kronor each.
