The National Police investigates a nursing home in Aravaca (Madrid) for a possible reckless homicide after the accidental death of one of the 79-year-old residents. The septuagenarian was drowned in his room with a harness to which he was tied in a wheelchair . The agents are now trying to find out if any negligence was committed by those responsible for the residence in the care of this elderly man, suspecting that he suffocated with the harness when sliding down the wheelchair. The residence is private and is located at number 8 Calle Blanca de Castilla.

Police from the Homicide group and the Scientific Police Brigade are investigating the case, and the medical examiner ordered the seal of the room while the circumstances of the death of this old man, who had just turned 79, are found out.

The events occurred the night of last Wednesday, July 29. Workers at the Orpea residence in Aravaca alerted the police after the accidental death of a man in his room. When the agents moved to the room they verified that the dead old man was in a wheelchair and that he was attached to it with a safety breastplate with which he could have suffocated. The workers indicated that they left the man in the room and subject to the wheelchair and that when they returned they found him dead.

Agents from Group VI of Homicides of the Judicial Police Brigade came to the scene and found that the old man was able to choke on the harness by sliding down the wheelchair. The forensic doctor ordered the police to seal the room and to take different tests to determine if the old man was properly attached to the wheelchair with the safety bib.
