According to him, the Russian side has not yet been provided with information justifying the detention of Russian citizens.

“But we hope and even are convinced that in the very near future our Belarusian colleagues will deal with this incident and release Russian citizens,” Peskov said.

He noted that "the unjustified detention of Russian citizens, moreover 33 citizens, does not quite fit into the parameters of allied relations."

On July 29, the state Belarusian news agency BelTA announced the arrest of 33 Russians in Belarus. On July 30 it became known that the detainees were suspected of preparing riots.

The Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs demanded that consular officers be allowed to the detained Russians. The Foreign Ministry also called on Minsk to stop whipping up "unnecessary negative emotions" on the eve of the presidential elections.
