At the drug trafficking site, 17,000 customers and 600 sellers traded drugs as if it were any online marketplace. Prosecutor Annika Wennerström likened it to a "Tradera for drugs".

Turned over 300 million

A 28-year-old man was charged in February this year with a particularly serious drug offense and accused of being the one who administered the site, which according to the prosecutor enabled 320,000 drug deals and had a turnover of close to SEK 378 million.

It was the first indictment against a suspected administrator of a drug trafficking site in Sweden.

But Stockholm District Court chose to release the 28-year-old. This despite the fact that it was considered clear that he had had some kind of connection to the administration of the drug trading site.

The court found that the investigation had gaps and that the evidence was not robust enough to be able to say that the man was the administrator and responsible for the site.

The 28-year-old is also appealing

The prosecutors are appealing the verdict, as they believe that the district court has made an incorrect evaluation of evidence in the part that deals with the man's role as administrator. They believe that it is beyond any reasonable doubt that the 28-year-old was heavily involved in the start-up, operation of the marketplace and handled the bitcoins stored there.

The 28-year-old is also appealing the district court's ruling. He demands that the part of the indictment relating to a serious drug offense, for which the district court convicted him, be dismissed.
