The wind speed is over 14 meters per second. In addition, the waves are too high for the ship to safely enter the harbor.

- Now she is lying and hovering outside Visby. We do not yet have a forecast for when the wind will calm down. The wind is now 14 seconds meters, which is the limit for the ship, but it is also about wind direction and the height of the waves, says Erika Janson, communications manager at Silja Line.

The ferry will return to Stockholm tonight at 19.00.

- It is of course sad for the 1,400 passengers. We still hope that the boat will be able to get into Visby during the day, says Erika Janson, communications manager at Silja Line.

In July last year, a similar event occurred. Then Viking Line's cruise ship M / S Cinderella could not get to the quay in Visby due to the strong wind. Then it blew 15 meters per second. For a couple of hours, the ship lay a bit out to sea, waiting for the wind speed to decrease or at least change direction. But at 2 pm, the shipping company decided to return to the mainland.
