The authorities said Thursday that a special prosecutor appointed to look into the dealings between Swiss prosecutor Michael Lauber and Gianni Infantino, president of the International Football Association (FIFA), has launched criminal investigations into Infantino and has agreed to investigate Lauber.

Last week, Uber offered to resign from his post after a court admitted that he had not reported his meeting with Infantino, and that he had also lied to his superiors while his office was conducting investigations into corruption surrounding FIFA.

The two men deny any wrongdoing in this regard, while FIFA did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

The Uber office said the latter had already submitted his resignation last Tuesday, and that his last working day would be August 31.

The Swiss prosecuting authority said on Thursday that Special Prosecutor Stefan Keeler - who was appointed earlier this month to review criminal complaints against the two men and against other people - had discovered criminal violations related to the dealings between FIFA President Infantino and prosecutor Uber.

Former FIFA President Joseph S. Blatter has been removed from office because of his conviction on corruption charges as well.
