“The interpretation by a number of mass media of the fact of the detention of Russian citizens on the territory of Belarus as an attempt to interfere in the internal affairs of the Republic has no basis,” the diplomat said in a statement.

He points out that the Russians arrived at the Belorusochka sanatorium near Minsk due to being late for a transit flight to a third country.

“They intended to fly from Minsk on July 25 and did not intend to stay in the republic for any length of time, and much later planned to return to the Russian capital from another state by plane as well, bypassing the territory of Belarus,” the ambassador said.

Earlier, the Investigative Committee of Belarus said that the Russians detained in Belarus were suspected of preparing riots.

In turn, the Kremlin hopes that the rights of detained Russian citizens will be fully respected.
