A woman in her twenties was killed in the middle of the day Thursday by her husband, at her home in Cannes (Alpes-Maritimes), in the sensitive district of Bocca, we learned from a police source. The spouse, aged about thirty, presented himself to the police station of La Bocca, said this source, confirming the information from Nice-Matin .

The young woman, mother of a one year old child present at the time of the facts, was killed by several stab wounds. By presenting himself to the police services the spouse declared to have had “a kind of madness”, according to this police source.

43rd feminicide since the start of the year

The man was taken into police custody and the investigation, under the authority of the Grasse public prosecutor's office, was entrusted to the repression squad for attacks on persons dependent on the Cannes police district.

This is the 43rd alleged feminicide since the start of the year, according to an AFP count: the 42nd intervened no later than Wednesday morning, in the Somme, in similar conditions. Another victim (the 41st) was also killed - also with knives - by her spouse Tuesday evening near Lyon.

In 2019, AFP had identified at least 126 cases of women killed by their partner or ex, or a woman every three days on average.
