The base said that between May and December 2019, he had stolen cash from wallets stored in lockers in the locker room by four colleagues 10 times, involving a total of 111,000 yen (approximately RMB 7,400). .

  According to reports, several other self-defense officers who had been stolen noticed that the cash in their wallets had decreased and reported to the base police force. After being questioned by the police force, the man involved confessed to the theft and said that “theft was carried out impulsively to pay back the money”.

  At present, the man has been punished with disciplinary and dismissal. Regarding this incident, Hamamatsu Base Commander Kumagaya Saburo said, "Such behavior is detrimental to the credibility of self-defense team members and will work hard to prevent such incidents from happening again."
