A total of 24 animals were brought in from Romania to Sweden, 23 pigeons and a dog. When there was a lack of documentation, the animals had to be killed with reference to the risks of infection that the animals could bring.

- The people are now in custody in Helsingborg awaiting trial, says Anna Broomé, prosecutor.

Denies crime

The interrogations show that the men make a living by transporting delivery orders from Romania to Sweden. Orders are placed via social media.

Both men deny the crime but acknowledge the circumstances, saying they were aware of what was being transported in the truck.

The pigeons were from Romania and were ordered by a man in Skåne. Interrogation shows that he collects and exchanges pigeons. Some pigeon breeds can be sold for up to 50 euros each.

The trial is expected to take place in August.
