The "only slogan" of the opposition, in Mali, remains the resignation of Malian President Ibrahim Boubacar Keïta, known as "IBK", as well as that of its Prime Minister, Boubou Cissé, its leaders said on Wednesday.

"The only slogan remains the resignation of IBK and its regime," one of the leaders of the M5-RFP coalition, Choguel Maïga, told the press.

The leading figure of the opposition movement, Imam Mahmoud Dicko, for his part said he had asked the Prime Minister "to resign, so that we can form a real government of" national unity ".

In power since 2013, President Keïta has been massively contested in the street since June. To the climate of exasperation, fueled for years by security instability in the center and north of the country, the economic slump or corruption deemed endemic, was added the invalidation by the Constitutional Court of some thirty results of the legislative elections of March-April.

On July 10, the third major demonstration against power at the call of the M5-RFP degenerated into three days of deadly unrest in Bamako, the worst in the capital since 2012, which left 11 dead according to the Prime Minister. A division of the UN mission in the country (Minusma) speaks of 14 protesters killed. The M5 evokes 23 deaths.

The current political crisis in Mali, of which a large part of the territory, plagued by jihadist and / or community violence almost daily, escapes the authority of the State, worries its allies and neighbors, who fear that the country sinks in chaos.

To prevent the Sahelian country, the epicenter of the jihadist threat in the Sahel, from sinking into chaos, West African leaders adopted a plan to end the crisis on Monday at a summit.

While excluding the resignation of President Keïta, ECOWAS leaders notably demanded the "immediate resignation" of the thirty or so deputies whose election is contested, including the President of Parliament, Moussa Timbiné. They asked the presidential majority to do their utmost to ensure that its elected representatives follow this slogan. They also called for the formation of a government of national unity.

For his part, Malian Prime Minister Boubou Cissé embarked on Tuesday in an operation to seduce the opposition, saying that it was "strongly desired" within a government of national unity. In vain.
