"The light is being shed," greeted the Minister for Citizenship Marlène Schiappa. After the filing of two complaints by women gendarmes of a brigade of Ain for acts of sexual harassment, the prosecutor's office of Bourg-en-Bresse ordered the opening of an investigation.

As is customary, a "command" investigation (internal to the gendarmerie) will also be carried out, the prosecutor's office confirmed to AFP on Wednesday. The investigation "has just been ordered by the prosecution," added the latter to explain not being able to communicate other elements at this stage.

"Do not let anything go"

The investigations "should make it possible to determine whether the facts are true". "Women engaged in law enforcement must be able to exercise their mission without this unacceptable sexual harassment!" I guarantee it ”, reacted in a tweet the Minister for Citizenship Marlène Schiappa.

"The Ain gendarmerie has assumed its responsibilities, the light is being shed #NeRienLissentPasser", added the former Secretary of State in charge of Equality between women and men.

Women now represent around 20% of the gendarmerie, where they were not accepted before the 1970s. Until 1982, they were only part of the administrative staff.
