A Sevilla FC player, who is due to face AS Roma on August 6 in the round of 16 of the Europa League, has tested positive for Covid-19, the club announced on Wednesday, fueling concern over the resumption of the Cups of 'Europe football next week.

"After the PCR tests carried out last Sunday on the players, staff and the rest of the staff, and the results of which were known on Monday July 27, a member of the first team tested positive for Covid-19", indicated the club in a press release.

"The person is asymptomatic, in good health and is isolated at home," added the Andalusian club without specifying the identity of the player.

On Tuesday, Real Madrid announced that its striker Mariano Diaz had tested positive for Covid-19, while the Spanish champion is due to face Manchester City in the knockout stages of the Champions League on August 7 in England.

Sevilla FC have also indicated that they have carried out new tests among their staff: "in the first series, all the tests are negative. The results of the second test, which was carried out today (Wednesday), will be known Thursday morning".

If the latter turns out to be negative again, the team plans to resume training sessions "individually" immediately.

The player concerned will already miss the Europa League round of 16 game against Roma in a dry match, scheduled for August 6 in the German city of Duisburg.
