Five young people rescued an octogenarian, stranded with his car at a level crossing located in Notre-Dame-de-Bondeville, near Rouen (Seine-Maritime), Sunday, July 19. The man did not want to get out of his vehicle and "was totally panicked", said the rescuers for a day with  Paris-Normandy on  Monday.

The young people, who were going to a friend's house, had to hurry before a train arrived. They first called the SNCF SOS service with the emergency telephone installed at the level crossing. Thanks to this reflex, traffic was stopped on the section.

They manage to free the vehicle

They also contacted the police and firefighters. Faced with the refusal of the octogenarian to leave, they then tried to unlock the vehicle stuck on the rails. Thanks to the help of other young people, they finally managed to move him. In the maneuver, however, one of them injured his wrist.

The town hall was made aware of their courageous act a few days later during an interview with one of the five young people. They "behaved in a heroic manner, they saved the life of a man, and perhaps even avoided a railway disaster", declared in Paris-Normandy the mayor of the commune, who should also put them at honor.
