Counselor Ji Rong, Spokesperson of the Chinese Embassy in India, answered the reporter's question on WeChat's forced restriction of sending and receiving messages among Indian users

Q: According to reports, WeChat has been forced to restrict the sending and receiving of messages among Indian users recently. What is your comment on this?

A: China has taken note of relevant reports. On June 29, the Indian government banned 59 mobile phone applications with Chinese background, including WeChat, which severely damaged the legitimate rights and interests of Chinese companies. The Chinese side has lodged solemn representations with the Indian side in this regard and asked the Indian side to correct its wrong practices.

I want to reiterate that the Chinese government has always required Chinese companies to conduct foreign cooperation on the basis of abiding by international rules and local laws and regulations. The Indian government is responsible for safeguarding the legitimate rights and interests of international investors, including Chinese companies, in accordance with market principles. The pragmatic cooperation between China and India is mutually beneficial and win-win. This kind of cooperation pattern has been artificially damaged, and in fact it does not conform to India’s own interests. China will also take necessary measures to safeguard the legitimate rights and interests of Chinese companies.
