After a long and extensive trial, two men were convicted of the murder of a 70-year-old man in Markaryd almost a year ago. The two men, who are in their 50s, were sentenced in the district court to life in prison.

Today, both men's defense lawyers are filing appeals against the district court's ruling.

One of the men demands through his lawyer that the Court of Appeal acquit him of both murder and use of means of subsistence, and only convict him of attempted fraud.

He denies any wrongdoing. He says he has not even met the man and not used any violence against him. In his appeal, he states that the district court's ruling is based on several assumptions and the conclusion that two perpetrators were required to carry out the murder and the car theft.

Blame each other

The other man also appeals the verdict.

- We appeal all the parts, liability, sanction, damages and deportation, says the man's defense lawyer Torgny Dahlberg who will submit the appeal before the end of the day.

In the first place, he wants his client to be acquitted.

- He has denied the crime and said that it was not him but his friend who did this. He has been to Markaryd and been involved in parts of the course of events, but he has not participated in the crucial parts.

The district court stated in its judgment that even if it is not possible to fully ascertain who did what, those involved can be regarded as accomplices and thus still be convicted of murder.

Relatives also appeal

Relatives of the murdered man have also appealed the verdict through their lawyer. They demand that the damages awarded to them by the district court for pain and suffering be increased slightly according to the Supreme Court's calculation model.
