Operation Berkane Fury of the Libyan Al-Wefaq government released photos that it said showed groups of Haftar forces backed by the mercenaries of the Russian Wagner company carrying out fortifications on the road linking the cities of Sirte and Al-Jafra, at points south of Sirte, in anticipation of the reconciliation government forces' return to regain control of that area.

The sources of the island had confirmed earlier that the militants of the Russian Wagner company, digging trenches in the roads leading to the Al-Jafra area to block any expected progress by Al-Wefaq forces towards the area.

In the same context, the Libyan delegate to the United Nations, Taher Al-Sunni, said that the Security Council will hold today a special hearing for the sanctions committee on Tuesday.

Al-Sunni said in a tweet to him yesterday, Monday, that the hearing will be closed for the sanctions committee and the expert team, and the countries concerned will attend, especially those countries whose names appear in the committee's reports.

The Sunni added that it would be an opportunity to uncover countries that were involved in what he described as aggression and breaching UN resolutions.

The US military command in Africa (AFRICOM) said a few days ago that it had growing evidence that Russia, through the Wagner Group, was continuing to deploy military equipment in Libya.

Africom said in a statement that the aerial photographs show Wagner forces and equipment on the front lines in Sirte, noting that Russia provided these forces with combat aircraft, armored vehicles, air defense systems and supplies.

She added that Russian military cargo aircraft continue to provide Wagner fighters with air defense equipment and mine-resistant armored vehicles, and that the size of this equipment indicates an intention to strengthen the capabilities of offensive combat operations, which would complicate the situation in Libya.
