The Victims of Terrorism Foundation is a state entity that has, among other purposes, to promote in all areas a better understanding of the situation of the group of victims of terrorism. The appointments in this foundation were agreed between the main political formations, PSOE and PP.

The Ministry of the Interior has been in charge of communicating this decision in which it clarifies that it is adopted in accordance with the provisions of article 8 of the statutes of the Foundation by the founders of the State Administration.

In a note from the Ministry of the Interior, the Government thanks María del Mar Blanco for her dedication and work in defense of the victims of terrorism, "knowing that her commitment in this area has been, is and will be permanent."

Tomás Caballero is the current second vice president of the Foundation. Since the beginning of the foundation, it has been part of its essential structures and is its patron.

Tomás Caballero Martínez, a native of Pamplona , is the son of Tomás Caballero Pastor , assassinated by ETA in 1998 when he was a UPN spokesman at the City Council of the Navarrese capital. The new president of the FVT currently occupies one of the entity's vice-presidencies and, at the same time, presides over the Foundation that bears his father's name.

The Victims of Terrorism Foundation is a non-profit entity created on December 19, 2001 with the purpose of bringing together aid and collaborating with all the associations and foundations of victims of terrorism registered in our country.

In accordance with its statutes, its purpose is to promote and disseminate democratic values, the defense of human rights, plurality and the freedom of citizens and, at the same time, to be a useful vehicle of consultation for a better understanding of the situation. of the group of victims of terrorism in Spain.

The first president of the Foundation's Board of Trustees was Adolfo Suárez, who continued to be honorary president until his death in 2014.
